When Nikki gets home, she finds her husband there, and Sarah (her daughter) in bed, as was foretold by the stranger. He says that she was the one who sent for him, years before. By the time dinner is over, she notices large spike scars on the man's wrists, and her life has been changed forever. Throughout their evening of conversation, arguments and debate, Nikki learns things she never knew about life, Heaven, Hell, other religions, the universe, and even herself. The man begins to use real life examples such as family and other religions to tie in why Christianity is the one true religion, also as to why he really is, in fact, Jesus.

Knowing that she would want to find out who is responsible, and not wanting to refuse a free dinner, she stays. She thinks the man is crazy and attempts to leave, but the man persuades her to stay by telling her that after dinner he would tell her who sent him. Excited, she goes to the restaurant, but sees a mysterious man claiming to be Jesus Christ (Jefferson Moore). At first she is irked because she is sick of the local churches' attempts at getting new followers, but quickly realizes that this may be a romantic attempt from her husband. Disappointed, she goes to work and sees an invitation for dinner at the very same restaurant that she was planning on going to with her husband. She invites her husband to have a romantic dinner at a local restaurant, but he has already made plans to go to a baseball game. She moved from Cincinnati, Ohio and is working for a large law firm in the Chicago area. When her friends affair with a powerful ad executive ends in the womans murder, an investigative reporter goes undercover within his agency to link him to the crime. Their personalities clash perfectly, and all it takes is a single thoughtless comment to push everyone's buttons and send the conversation spiraling into an argument - or worse, a revelation.Nikki Cominsky (Pamela Brumley) is a lawyer with problems in her married life. A few scenes grant us the gift of the strangers sitting together in a hot spring or across from each other at a table. Melissa McCarthy and Bobby Cannavale showcase their chemistry by bouncing off each other with ease. Michael Shannon's grieving father, Napoleon, spends half his screen time being a vaguely annoying goofball, but his struggles with grief are aching, and in the rare moments that his joking composure crumbles, he devastates. Otherwise, "Nine Perfect Strangers" is at its best when the actors are given space to breathe and blow us all away. Much like Kidman's wig and Russian accent, Masha's characterization leaves much to be desired. But other than being ethereal and intimidating, Masha isn't especially compelling. Don't get me wrong, "Nine Perfect Strangers" certainly builds an atmosphere around Masha, making sure we understand her power and effect on the strangers. Sadly, Kidman's character is one of many aspects of the show that gets lost in the shuffle. Nicole Kidman's Masha is at the center of the story, along with her two staff members Yao (Manny Jacinto) and Delilah (Tiffany Boone). Among the strangers are a grieving family, a self-loathing novelist, an on-the-rocks couple, a divorcee with anger issues, a mysterious journalist, and a retired athlete addicted to painkillers The show certainly takes its time revealing the many hidden truths of Tranquillum, but its characters provide plenty else to focus on. Before the signs have even begun to reveal themselves, you sense that something isn't quite right.

The remote spa they've gathered at has a captivating sense of mystery to it.
